MAY 2003

The AGM took place at the April meeting as per the revised plan. It was quorate (just!) and the following elections were made for 2003 -04:

Chairman Steve Green

Vice-Chairman Tony Cropper

Secretary Richard Hewison

Programme Co-ordinator Jack Evans

Martin Grainger, our long-serving Treasurer, expressed a wish to stand down from this duty. There was no volunteer forthcoming at the AGM for this post. Please consider whether you are prepared to offer your services to the Committee for this post: a volunteer would be very welcome.

This month's meeting will be held at the usual time/place on Wednesday 28th May. The speaker is still to be finalised: Jack will be making an announcement on the newsgroup csa.announce as soon as he is able.

Another Wakefield Show has come and gone - did anyone from BARUG go there? A first-hand report would be welcome at the next meeting. Microdigital launched a new 'portable' machine, the Alpha - a PC laptop running a new version of Vitual Acorn, this version reflecting RISC OS4 and apparently being licensed by RISCOS Ltd. Shipments of the Omega were threatened but so far there is no sign of any having been received: there were Omegas at Wakefield for people to play with. No news from RiscStation on their portable either. New versions of Photodesk (32 bit compatible) and ArtWorks (version 2) were launched: the latter is enhanced compared to the original version and further development is promised. New USB devices and driver software were also launched. It appears that most of these will only work with the Simtec USB podule, the various USB developers apparently having ceased work for now on Castle's equivalent product.

Select 3 has now been released in beta form for those "who must have the latest features" (and bugs :-)) ) Those Select members with fast download capability may obtain it from the RISCOS Ltd website in the usual place. It's expected to be exposed to the members as a beta version until the developers are satisfied that it is stable, when the usual CDROM version will be sent out to the Select membership at large.

See you soon!
