BARUG NewsJune 2005The May meeting was supposed to have been an EGM followed by an AGM. Unfortunately, insufficient members turned up for the meeting to have a quorum and so none of the business could be transacted. The EGM/AGM will therefore be re-run at the June meeting at the usual time and venue on June 29th. I have written to each member to ask for their support at the EGM/AGM, but have since only had three replies. Assuming that the members who did turn up in May will do so again in June, that gives us slightly over 50% of the membership which has replied. May I ask that those who have not already done so let me know whether you will be attending, and if not, what are your views on the future of the Group. If the June meeting is not quorate, then BARUG faces an uncertain future. If you want BARUG to continue, come and support it at the June meeting. The Wakefield Show has been and gone for another year. the highlight was the appearance of the A9 prototype, a tiny machine making extensive use of USB to connect to the outside world. Currently available only to developers, it has provoked much comment on the newsgroups. As usual, there is a lot of whining about the proposed price being too high. I think that those who do so can have little understanding of the way business works. Those who make such machines have to make a profit to pay bills and pay staff. You can make your own mind up about the A9 specification by looking at it at: http://www.drobe.co.uk/riscos/artifact1350.html The A9 is being shown at the northern RISC OS groups at the moment: perhaps we can tempt someone into venturing south and showing it to us? See you on the 29th.... Steve |
