December 2005

Last month

We were visited by Paul Middleton once again. Paul showed us an A9 and an Iyonix running parts of RISC OS Select in 32 bit form. He said that much work still remained to be done to complete the move to the Iyonix and was looking for more Iyonix owners to declare an interest.

The showing of Select running on the A9 was less successful in the time-honoured tradition of demonstration of new work.

Paul assured us that the new version of Select for the RiscPC is due for release early in the New Year, hopefully this will ease the fears of those Select subscribers who have waited so long for the next update to our favourite operating system.

This Month

The December meeting will be held a week early because of Christmas on Wednesday, December 21st. It will be our ususal get together for coffee, mice pies and tall stories.

Other News

Drobe is carrying news of the RISC OS Roadshows being taken around the country this weekend. Items include developments of the A9 graphics system which would appear to make it very adaptable and fast.

Developments for the Iyonix include the drivers for more graphics cards with the hope of being able to drive two monitors in a dual head display appearing soon.

Spellings Software have announced Geminus graphics acceleration for the Iyonix. This piece of software makes fuller use of the hardware on the NVidia graphics card to speed up screen redrawing. Hopefully versions of the software will be available for the RiscPC and the A9 in due course.

The Cerilica website has disappeared, leaving Vantage users in no doubt as to the status of their software. It is not all bad news, however, as there are moves afoot to try and come to an agreement with Vantage's author so that further development can be taken over. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Archive magazine has announced a range of booklets covering such topics as Messenger Pro, StrongEd, networking and VirtualRiscPC. These booklets collect together articles on one topic from Archive and are similar to Archive itself in layout.

Merry Christmas to one and all.
