BARUG News
December 2003Unfortunately, due to a rather nasty last minute illness Paul Middleton wasn't able to give his talk as planned in November, Jack is attempting to re-arrange this for January. We hope Paul is now recovered from the lurgy... December's meeting is on the earlier-than-usual date of 17th December at the usual time and place, when there will be no guest speaker, but there will be mince pies and coffee. I have just received my copy of Virtual RPC-SE and intend to bring it down so that anyone who wishes can have a hands-on play with the program. If anyone has other equipment or problems they wish to discuss, it's an ideal opportunity to do this. Drobe reports that Martin Wuerthner's bid to bring more modern printer drivers to RISC OS is going ahead well, with initial results due in January. This is a porting of drivers from the Linux world. Let's hope it works - printing is a rather key attribute of any computer, and RISC OS risks being left out in the cold due to lack of information and the rapidity with which printers come and go from the market! See the Drobe article at: http://www.drobe.co.uk/riscos/artifact894.htm Drobe also reports that development of the Simtec USB card continues, with a new release of software out today. See: http://www.drobe.co.uk/riscos/artifact896.htm I can confirm that the Simtec card works very well in my RPC.
To anyone who cannot make the December meeting, Season's Greetings to you. To those who can - see you soon!
