August 2004

I'm afraid that last month's meeting had to be cancelled at short notice because Paul Vigay, who was supposed to be visiting us, had to pull out. As both Chairman and Vice-Chairman were absent, Jack decided to cancel rather than have an evening with no theme and no speaker. I fully support his decision, and apologise to anyone who didn't get his message and turned up to an empty meeting room! Paul apologises again and hopes to be able to visit us in the future.

In the last newsletter I announced that there would be no meeting in August - but that was when there was to be a meeting in July... :-)

So there WILL be an August meeting after all, on Wednesday 25th August at the usual time of 1930.

In recent months we've had a couple of presentations on how to use digital cameras with RISC OS and how to process the results. I propose to show how to organise the results, using a couple of freely available programs. Both work on my RISC PC, but I hope also to have them working on Virtual RPC on my PC laptop by the time of the meeting. I promise not to inflict too many of my holiday photos on you... :-)

The RISOS Ltd vs Castle issue has been resolved, although few details seem to be available. However, Jack has managed to book Paul Middleton, MD of RISCOS Ltd, for the September meeting. I am given to understand that in mid-September there is likely to be an announcement on how the agreement between the parties will operate and how RISC OS is to be taken forward. BARUG members will be amongst the first to hear the detail 'from the horse's mouth'.

Members are again reminded that the annual subscription of £7 is now due. I'll bring some forms to the meeting.

See you at the August meeting!
